Navotas City Congressman John Rey Tiangco

NAVOTAS CITY, Oct. 15 (PIA)–Navotas received a prestigious citation for implementing outstanding programs in education.

The City on Thursday bagged the Galing Pook Award for providing its constituents with Accessible, Holistic and Inclusive Education (ACHIEVE) beginning early childhood.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco and other city officials received the plaque and marker during the 25th Galing Pook awarding ceremony held at Novotel Manila.

ACHIEVE includes various early childhood education and health initiatives based on sustainable and transferable approaches such as First 1,000 Days, supplemental feeding, Kindergarten on Wheels, Youth and Kids Ministry, and Avot Tour.

Also included are FUNtastic Family Day, Alternative Learning System and Project Gabay Edukasyon para sa mga Mag-aaral na Wala sa Paaralan (GEM), NavotaAs Scholarship Program, among others.

“Every child deserves to have access to quality education.  It should not be hindered by any circumstances, whether it is poor health or poor finances,” said Tiangco.

“It is our responsibility, as adults, to give them what is rightfully theirs and efficiently provide quality and comprehensive learning in a child-friendly manner and environment,” he added.

Tiangco noted the continuous decline of school drop-outs as opposed to the steady increase in the number of graduates and Alternative Learning System completers and passers as major results of the city’s educational programs.

“We are thankful for the constant support of every Navoteño. Everyone’s willingness to participate actively in the city government’s efforts to promote inclusive and holistic education for our youth made our undertaking and this recognition possible,” he said.

Galing Pook awardees were evaluated based on positive results and impact, promotion of people’s participation and empowerment, innovation, transferability and sustainability, and efficiency of program service delivery. (PIA-NCR)
