Navotas City has been awarded a Seal of Good Education Governance by a non-profit organization for its efforts to provide quality education to residents.

City Mayor John Rey Tiangco and local education officials received the award on September 6 at the National Education Summit at the Philippine International Convention Center.

The Seal of Good Education Governance is given to local government units “that effectively organizes all systems and processes in the delivery of basic education,” according to the citation given to the winners.

Tiangco said he is thankful for educators, local school boards and parents who support the city government in its efforts to provide holistic education to students.

“Nawa’y maging inspirasyon natin ang parangal na ito para ipagpatuloy ang ating adbokasiya na ibigay sa ating mga kabataan ang pinakamagandang edukasyon na nararapat sa kanila,” he said.

Among the city government’s education programs are the Kindergarten on Wheels, which provide free education to children five years and older who are not in school. Grade school students are also given free bags and school supplies.

At present, the city government has 595 scholars. Of this number 293 are athletic scholars, 291 are academic scholars and 11 are art scholars.
