About John Rey Tiangco

With a comprehensive experience in public service, Cong. John Rey Tiangco’s mantra for the city is “NavotaAs: Itaas ang antas ng buhay ng mga Navoteño.” He is known for his commitment to the residents of the city and excellent service as a public servant. His career has been praised as a “fresh brand of public service.”

Mayor of Navotas
As the former Mayor of Navotas, he devoted his administration’s efforts and resources to the immediate necessities of the Navoteños such as: Health, Education, Livelihood, Peace and Order and Housing (HELPH).

His first term as mayor was regarded as highly beneficial for Navoteños, as the partnership and cooperation with his brother, then Cong. Toby Tiangco, led to rapid progress of their government projects. For instance, the brothers announced in 2013 that the first public hospital in the city will be built. By August 2014, construction of the hospital has already started.

In 2016, his governance was able to reduce the crime rate in Navotas by 50%.

During his term as mayor, Navotas won a number of awards. These included the highest award given by COA (Commission on Audit)  – the Unqualified Opinion — in 2015, 2016 and 2017 as utmost proof of responsible local government spending. Navotas also earned the Seal of Good Housekeeping, Seal of Good Local Governance, 2018 Galing Pook Award, Seal of Child-friendly Local Governance, and Seal of Good Education Governance among others.

Representative of the Lone District of Navotas
Now in a position where he can provide a better voice for his constituents, he continues to bring Navotas to greater heights by uplifting the city to its highest potential along with its people.

Within the first month of becoming the representative for the Lone District of Navotas City, he has already filed House Bills in Congress that will continue to improve the quality of life of Navoteños. One of these bills is HB No. 876 or LRT Extension Act that extends the LRT Line 1 from Monumento in Caloocan City to Navotas to make the city more accessible to people. He has also filed HB No. 877 or the Teachers Incentives Act that aims to increase salaries of public school teachers and non-teaching personnel, in addition to giving them incentives.

Cong. John Rey Tiangco’s other legislation plans include the modernization of the Navotas Fishport Complex, uplifting the lives of fisherfolk, and giving salaries and benefits to Barangay Health Workers.
