Some 1,000 young NavoteƱos attended the free talent and sports workshops by the Navotas City Government.

Around 289 who joined the city’s Summer Youth Program (SYP) got the chance to get lessons in acting, dancing, drawing, playing guitar and arnis.

Meanwhile, 865 trained under the NavotaAs Sports Camp Batch 17 where they learned how to play basketball, volleyball, badminton, taekwondo, table tennis, soccer, as well as instructions in judo, track & field, poomsae, and swimming.

ā€œYoung NavoteƱos deserve to have access to training and workshops that could develop and enhance their interest in arts or sports. We want them to enjoy and, at the same time, make the most of their summer break,ā€ Mayor John Rey Tiangco said.

The SYP, held once every year, is open to all NavoteƱos aged 7 to 18. The program was launched in 2000 during the term of then mayor and now Cong. Toby Tiangco to encourage the youth to discover and hone their talents.

The sports clinic, on the other hand, is conducted thrice every year as part of the city’s campaign against illegal drugs. The program started in 2011, a year after the younger Tiangco took office.

The city has opened the registration for the NavotaAs Sports Camp Batch 18. NavoteƱos 7 to 21 years old may join the workshop.
