Navotas Mayor John Rey Tiangco and brother, Rep. Toby Tiangco, a front-runner in May 13 polls and said to succeed the former, have been consistently pushing a massive clean-up drive all over the city.
Mayor JRT, himself, was pre-occupied in appreciating the city schools led by their officials for encouraging students and teachers to participate in a clean-up drive every first Friday of the month.
“Our surroundings are an extension of our home. As we keep our homes tidy, we should also make sure that we maintain the cleanliness of our surroundings.”
The Tiangco brothers have always been credited by many for their consistent partnership in gearing Navotas towards progress as shown by cleanliness and massive decrease in flooding problem owing to various flood-control projects like the establishment of several pumping stations in strategic areas.
“Even during my term as mayor in the city, I carried out programs and projects designed to keep the city clean and flood-free and Navotas has enjoyed all these because my brother did not stop from implementing the same and I intend to do the same in a much bolder way if I’m given chance to serve again as mayor,” Cong. Toby said.
The city’s campaign, titled “Navotas Ko, Love Ko,” aimed to instill in Navoteños the values of stewardship and care for the city. It participated in a massive clean-up to help rehabilitate and preserve the Manila Bay. Some 23,036 kilograms of waste were collected from the simultaneous coastal and riverside clean-ups conducted by the 18 barangays late last month.
VMayor Joy contends plan to list QC as poll hotspot
Quezon City VMayor Joy Belmonte has opposed a proposal for Quezon City to be declared an election hotspot following the killing of Brgy. Bagong Silangan chair Crisell “Beng” Beltran.
“I don’t think our city should be declared an election hotspot. I think that is premature and it will only cause panic. It will only cause our people to doubt the integrity of our local government and our police force.”
:“Just like what NCRPO Chief Guillermo Eleazar said, it is election-related only because it occurred in the election period. Many people think that when we say it is an election-related incident, it is politically-motivated already. No, they are two different things.”
When we say election-related, the incident occurred during the election period. That’s different to politically-motivated and Gen. Eleazar himself said that that’s just one of the angles they have been exploring, according to her.“Some of us forget that offenders could abuse the election period to commit crimes with a different motive to put the blame on politics. I think that’s exactly what happened.”
She guaranteed the public that she will assure that this will be the last incident of election-related killing in the city and that the local government will work closely with the police to ensure the safety and security of residents.
